The Great Monsoons
The sounds of trickling water droplets resonate below my bedroom window and at this moment, all is agreeable. The wind picks up with a mighty force and thrusts itself about, the skies echo with thunderous crashes, and the heavens are silhouetted with streaks of light dancing across the mighty canyon.
It was only moments ago that the skies had been adorned with vibrant colors of the finest portrait ever painted by the hands of Mother Nature. As canyon walls saturated with shades of purple and hints of pink loomed under the most brilliant display of light that faded into the abyss, as if the clouds had congregated purposefully in such a manner to hide the sun away until the break of a new day.
But now in the distance zigged-zagged fashioned veins shuffle on the horizon, giving shape to the illuminated earth below.

The season of monsoons is one to be celebrated and praised., taking the callousness out of the bitter desert climate and bringing a bounty of solitude. With each thundercloud comes peace - with each lightning strike comes understanding - and with each rain drop comes appreciation. The waters have arrived and are composing a new landscape - one that is bearable and pleasing.
The strong syrupy aroma of pines linger throughout the forested rim, wafted by gentle cool breezes fashioned from the storms. The masses of visitors are driven into hiding, revealing the edges of the canyon as a place of solitude. The storm has brought forth the opportunity to wander about and take notice of all that surrounds me with no disturbance. Tomorrow will be a good day. The night fades...
Awakened by the splendid songs of birds that croon praise to the waters, a new day has begun. A saturated earth brings vivacity to the world outside. Fowl peck at the pebbled ground, bushy tailed rodents slurp water from puddles, and ungulates stampede through dew stained bushes… the dynamics of the dreadful desert have changed overnight.
What is it about water that manifests such celebration? Bringing about the best from creation; it serves as a reminder of hope when all seems lost. A fresh fallen shower creates a slate of rejuvenation - synonymous with a new beginning.
Ah, the monsoons approach again, here is to a brand new start...
